International Consultant to REA

We are pleased to announce our appointment as an International Consultant to the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Nigeria.  REA is the Implementing Agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria tasked with electrification of rural and unserved communities.

The primary objective of this assignment is to develop frameworks for the REA’s minigrid projects to ensure effective monitoring, quality management and coordinated knowledge sharing.

Given our experience in energy management and digital solutions, we will provide advisory and reporting services to REA as part of this project to enable it to achieve full digitalisation of its minigrid projects, serving as an enabler for effective performance monitoring and evaluation.

Commenting on the initiative, REA’s Africa Minigrid Project Manager, Nasir Bukar-Ibrahim said: “The 4-year program will expand energy access across Nigeria and revolutionise how rural communities use electricity in agriculture. Apart from proving access to clean energy and reducing GHG emissions, the project will serve an estimated 70,000 direct beneficiaries, out of which over 30,000 are women.”

Zak Ajia, GreenPad’s founder added: “The project will support REA’s technical and management capacities to improve its provision of clean and affordable energy and the reduction of inequalities in rural communities in Nigeria, making positive contributions to several UN SDGs.”

Noting the relevance of the digitalisation of minigrid systems to the Nigerian economy, GreenPad’s Project Lead, Umar Aliyu said: “Some of the significant challenges of minigrid project lifecycle will be addressed by the project through digital solutions. This will increase the market potential and investment opportunities of the Nigerian minigrid sector. Additionally, the use of digital solutions will boost minigrid development and introduce innovative business models, leading to direct economic impacts such as job creation and energy expenditure savings.”
